What Is Tapeout Data Manipulation?

What is Tapeout in VLSI?

In electronics and photonics design, tape-out or tapeout is the final result of the design process for integrated circuits or printed circuit boards before they are sent for manufacturing. The tapeout is specifically the point at which the graphic for the photomask of the circuit is sent to the fabrication facility.

Why is it called Tapeout?

The term tape-out was named so because historically a magnetic tape was used to store all the ASIC design files and this tape was then send to the foundry for manufacturing.

What is PG in semiconductor?

This is how the final design of the tapeout was stored before being sent for production. This particular stage of the process is sometimes referred to as Pattern Generation ( PG ) which designers use to describe the final manufacturing database for an ASIC.

What is tape in and tape-out?

Tape – out is the final phase of a design life cycle for a IC design (ASIC/SOC) before the manufacturing starts. ( And the same for a PCB design before it is manufactured)

What is EDA in VLSI?

What is EDA in VLSI? EDA is also known as Electronic Computer-Aided Design (ECAD). It is a software tool used to design the electronic circuit. EDA tools help to create multiple types of electronic circuits like an integrated circuit (IC), printed circuit board (PCB) and system on chip (SoC).

Is tape out the same as line out?

REC OUT or TAPE OUT is the same as LINE OUT.

How are lithography masks made?

Photomasks are made by applying photoresist to a quartz substrate with chrome plating on one side and exposing it using a laser or an electron beam in a process called maskless lithography. The photoresist is then developed and the unprotected areas with chrome are etched, and the remaining photoresist is removed.

What is tape out on a mixer?

Tape Out (or Tape Monitor Output) is an audio output channel found on mixing consoles and some receivers. Tape Out is a master output of all the input channels on a mixer or receiver at a fixed level of -10dBV, and they are not affected by the main output volume control or fader.

What is ASIC tapeout?

Tape out is a major milestone in every ASIC project lifecycle. It means the design phase is completed and you are ready to send out the GDSII to the fab for production. The term “ tape out ” was coined in 70’s. Historically, engineered used a magnetic tape to store all the ASIC design files.

What is tape made out of?

Adhesive tapes consist of a material called a backing or carrier (paper, plastic film, cloth, foam, foil, etc.), which is coated with an adhesive and a release liner if needed. The adhesive-coated backing or carrier is then wound up to form a long jumbo roll of tape.
